Japanese textbook row

think: why is it that koreans n chinamen r so against japan even after so many yrs since e Japanese occupation? singaporeans, on e other hand, can’t really be bothered if e new japanese history textbook whitewashes e japanese militarism durin WWII?

plus: why did those chinamen protest outside japanese department stores in china? u dun see singaporeans doin that?

hah.. this i noe~!! that’s cos e opportunity cost of singaporeans doin sthg so stupid, immature and time-wasting is definitely much higher than those chinamen. imagine us taking one day off work to riot outside takashimaya. e wages we lose will prolly be 10 times more than those idiots!

haha. i hate chinamen…..

Well, maybe to you it‘s stupid, but to them it‘s an expression against what they believe is an injustice towards their country.

Why do people protest and riot? Because that‘s the only way their voices will be heard. They don‘t have enough social stature to effect any change through conventional means.

Singaporeans wouldn‘t do something like that.. because we‘re all talk no action. And maybe we‘re just too unemotional. Take for example the casino debate. Although there are plenty of people who oppose it, all they do is run off their mouth and bitch and moan about how it‘ll ruin lives and families. But at the end of the day, they just lie down and accept what the Gahmen decides.

You‘re entitled to your opinion. But to call those protesters idiotic is an insult to them and what they believe in.

Yeah sad fact is, there is no way everyone can be pleased with the govt‘s actions. There‘re some means of expressing feelings that may not be practical or even acceptable at all –> Quoted frm the Cheena govt itself. They do not support the behaviour of their own people (although i suspect they‘re prolly laughin behind the scene to see Japanese firms suffer!)

In any case, i‘m pro-casino. hahaha. * mercenary snow white *
those who‘re afraid it‘ll ruin their lives, get a grip of themselves & dun gamble. temptations r everywhere. let‘s hope that the govt can present some good measures to make it harder for them to succumb to such temptations.

Got casino means got jobs… Got jobs means more people got money… More ppl got money means more ppl gamble… More ppl gamble means Govt earn more!!!

Anyway, I dun mind working at our IR.. Integrated Resorts as our govt calls them…

  4. snow white says:

The assumption of decreasing risk aversion as wealth increases is not wrong, but to assume that people will put more of their money into gambling at casinos as they get richer is definitely not justifiable. wahaha. doesnt this sound too familiar? –> to Ash

dude, maybe you ought to check on that time machine that sent you here from 1870. who the hell uses the term "chinamen" anymore? serious blow to your credibility. now go check the bushes to make sure no one left with your craft and sewed up your wormhole.

  6. snow white says:

hahaha usin e term "chinamen" means that i‘m someone frm e past? hmmm that‘s sthg new.. hahaha. i haf this hunch that this is a defending "chinamen". ahem, pardon my use of lousy vocab here pls.

jus for ur information, it‘s a term we use to distinguish us frm the chinese in china. cos btw, i‘m chinese too. if u dunno this, does that mean u‘re not one of us?

in any case, why do i need credibility to publish sthg on my blog? it‘s sthg personal, u dun pay for it, n u‘re not compelled to read it, tho i welcome all readers! =)

I dare you to go up to a Jewish holocaust survivor and tell them the same:
\"OH WELL the holocaust happened DECADES AGO! FORGIVE AND FORGET STUPID!\"

    let\‘s see you survive.

  8. snow white says:

but e weird thing is those ppl who riot n protest r not e survivors! but e younger generation who dun seem to haf much to do wif e gruelling past.

    for another discussion, read: http://liangcai.blogspot.com/2005/04/row.html
haha liangcai, i jus helped publicise ur blog. hope u dun mind! =)

  9. kodama says:

most nazi holocaust protesters aren‘t direct survivors either.

  10. liangcai says:

The issue here is more about what fuels the fight for a cause which as been set from a few decades ago. True enough time will not change facts for those directly related in these issues, but for those who did not live during those times and have heard recounts either from those related in these events and re-representations of the facts in the media or otherwise, would violent protests be the way to voice out the viewpoint that they hold?

I am inclined to feel that there is nothing wrong with protesting against something you feel strongly against, but violent protests which comes to injury and damage to property? Would a new generation who never directly experienced the event, be justified enough to protest to this extent? I don‘t mind accepting the notion of patriotic nationalism but the debate will go on.

    Just my few cents worth
